The body of a pregnant mother goes through a lot of hormonal, psychological, and of course, physical changes
These developments call for an adjustment in dietary habits as well. It’s not as straightforward as doubling up your food intake – a pregnant mother needs to practise a healthy and balanced diet to cope with the increased nutritional needs.
A pregnant mother requires additional micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) and macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats). It’s recommended that you eat normally during the first semester, and then increase 350 and 450 calories respectively in your second and third semester.
